Cameron Herold: Let's Raise Kids to be Entrepreneurs

Jan

Watching this video the other day, I couldn't help but be struck by the theme that seems to be consistant throughout just about every video that strikes me with these Ted Talks.  Our culture seems to be stiffiling the potential of our children.

Rather than purely be offended and disgusted with this, parents seem to be sedated.  Relegated to make sure their children aren't singled out and identified as being 'different', 'unique', or 'special'.  We wouldn't want them to be precieved as coloring outside of the lines for fear of having to deal with the reprocussions of those perceptions later in life.  Our education system is currently set up to train and prepare our kids for lives in the worlds of lawyers and doctors.  If a child desires to be and do anything less, they are considered to be under achievers.  They are considered to have a lack of drive and a lack of desire.  I beg to differ.

A child that desires to break from the pack and go their own way fights an up hill battle from the beginning.  They are taking the hard way around, and dare I say, will build the necessary character to survive and thrive in a world that is ever evolving and changing.  Unlike those who choose to follow the forged path of all of before them, these children are developing the skills to think outside of the box and to color outside of the lines.

Let our children thrive.
